A directory of doctoral research on climate litigation, in progress and completed, and the form for adding your own thesis to it.

About the hub

CLIMPACT and the Climate Change Legal Initiative (C2LI) maintain this directory of doctoral research on climate litigation. It records who has worked on what, at which institution, on which jurisdictions and with which method. It covers theses in progress and theses already defended: a doctorate completed some years ago is part of how the field arrived where it is, and it is exactly the kind of work that has become hard to find. Entries are written by the researchers themselves and stay theirs to update.

  • CLIMPACT — Host — A major research project at the University of Bari Aldo Moro. It studies the impacts of climate litigation on law, policy, business and society, and is building an open-access database of cases.
  • C2LI — Partner — A social enterprise committed to growing legal knowledge and strengthening expertise in the law, to drive just and transformational climate action. Its network of national rapporteurs provides up-to-date knowledge of specific national legal settings.

What an entry does

  • It can be found — The entry is public and searchable by theme, jurisdiction, discipline, stage and country, whether the thesis is under way or was defended years ago.
  • It holds the detail — Abstract, methods, jurisdictions, supervisor, a photo, links to your papers, and any document you choose to attach.
  • It states what you are available for — Collaboration, feedback on drafts, sharing case lists, speaking at a workshop. Readers know why to write to you.
  • It can be shown elsewhere — The directory can be embedded on other websites, including your own institution's.

Adding an entry

  • Fill in the form — Your details, your thesis, the themes and jurisdictions you work on, and any files or links you want to attach. No account is needed.
  • The entry is published — It appears in the directory when you submit it. We read new entries and may write to you about one.
  • You keep editing it — We email you a private link. It opens your entry from any device, so you can keep it current as the work progresses or as later publications appear, or take it down.

Call for Interest

The Call for Interest for doctoral researchers working on climate litigation has no closing date: you can answer it at any point in your doctorate. The call sets out the scope and how the material is used.

What we keep, and for how long

Your entry is public because you asked for it to be. Everything on it is what you typed. Your email address is not part of the entry: we keep it separately, with the private link that lets you edit, and we do not show it unless you tick the box that publishes it. When someone writes to you through the form on your page, the message passes through us and your address is never given out. We keep all of it for as long as your entry is on the hub. Deleting your entry from your private link erases the page, your details, your email address and the files you uploaded. We keep no copy, and we cannot undo it. Twice a year at most we write to ask whether the entry is still current. You can stop those, and every other message, by deleting the entry.

Add your thesis

For a thesis under way or one defended years ago. Your name, your thesis title, your institution and an email address are required. Everything else is optional and can be added later from the private link we send you.
